The bans were issued via a release on Monday 31 July 2023.
The Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK), the body mandated to protect athletes’ fundamental rights to participate in doping-free sports in the country, has handed bans to three body building athletes found guilty of doping violations.
In a communique issued on Monday 31 July, ADAK banned Brandon Oluoch Abednego, Jotham Kara Elahetoia and Joseph Wasike Wesonga for 4 years, 2 years and 4 years respectively to the three athletes in decisions that were made by the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT).
The Sports Dispute Tribunal has sanctioned the following body building athletes WESONGA JOSEPH WASIKE, OLUOCH BRANDON ABEDNEGO and ELAHETIA JOTHAM KARANI.

Oluoch's sample was found to contain prohibited substances S1.1 Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS)/methandienone metabolites 6, leading to a four-year ban.
The substance is known for its muscle-building properties and is strictly banned in sports due to its potential for enhancing performance.
“The period of ineligibility (non-participation in both local and international events) for the Respondent shall be for 4 years from 20/07/2023 pursuant to Article 10.2.1.1 of the WADC,” the ruling read.
Jotham, who has previously finished second in the East Africa Body Building Championship, tested positive for the presence of S5. Diuretics and Masking Agents/hydroclorothiazide and its metabolite 4-amino-6-cloro-1,3-benzenedisulphonamide (ACB) contrary to the provisions of Article 2.1 of ADAK Anti-Doping Rules.
Diuretics are banned substances as they can help athletes mask the use of other prohibited drugs by flushing them out of their system more quickly.
“The period of ineligibility shall be from the date of the Athlete’s Provisional Suspension which began on 8th December 2022 for a period of two (2) years. (8th December, 2022 to 8th December, 2024),” the statement read.
Joseph tested positive for prohibited substances S1.1 Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS)/trenbolone and its metabolite 17αhydroxyestr-4,9,11-trien- 3-one (Epitrenbolone) and S4. Hormone and Metabolic Modulators/letrozole metabolite Bis-(4-cyanophenyl) methanol.
Trenbolone is an anabolic steroid that can promote muscle growth but poses significant health risks, and its use is strictly prohibited in sports.
“The period of ineligibility shall be from the date of this decision for a period of four (4) years starting 29th June 2023 to 30 June 2027,” the ruling read.
